I think if you're tall you can buy a large frame and raise the seatpost but theres not a lot of difference in front ends i.e. headtube length doesn't vary by much more than 20mm across sizes. So flats may work for some people but for me risers are necessary in order to give a good position, my bars are still about an inch below my seat when riding.
 
Both, risers on my early 90's retros feel wrong. not tried flats on my moderns but wont be due to not so high set up.

But get this in MBUK it said that Flats are coming back in as the next big thing for downhill bikes!!! :roll: :lol:

makes sense though ;) :idea: , with high as f00k forks out now, low risers are becoming common place on AM stuff etc. :)
 
modern kona has low rise bar, retro build has flat bar. i did put a club roost bar on it back in 96 or 97 i think and it has been on the bike untill last year!
 
I use both. Flats and barends on my 'retro' steeds, risers on my modern Stumpjumper Pro. To be very honest, I'd like to ride flats all the time but my aging back won't let me :cry:
