Bars

Risers are far too wide( bars should be the same width as your shoulders at widest max) and with modern forks end up with too high a front cockpit. If you want more height fit a more angled stem. Sweep? A more swept bar? I run 9 and 11 deg flatties and Flts are a lot lighter generally too!

Funny this should come up - just swapped (on my main ride - rigid Chameleon) back to a riser (Second hadn Easton Monkeylite Carbons for a tenner!  ) after being a die hard Salsa Pro Moto flat user.

But....have really relished the change, brought back memories of when Club Roost risers came out and many (most?) MTBers' fitted them.

Anyway, just finding it more comfortable with greater control. Flats look so much better though.

i like flat for a race hardtail xc set up but midrise for full suss or anything jumpy/dh, but anything retro for me has to be flats, i thought that was a rule?

Mmmm..risers for me. More comfortable (yes, could have a high rise stem...but I don't like the look  )...oh, and I like wide bars too.

I prefer riser bars as it's more comfy to ride but Konahed if you are choosing bars for your 1991 Kona Lavadone, I would use flat bars to keep the retro look.

Flat for me now on my xc bikes, i still have risers on 1 though, but will be changing them to flats soon. I used to ride with risers on everything but now i just can't get on with them.
As for my dh bike, well defo wide risers on that. Flats would just be silly

Yeah, it's a pity I didnt go for a stem with some rise, I switched the clunky Velocity stem for a Syncros 0 degree.

Oh, i thought we were talkin modern, it MUST be flat bars on retro bikes. Just wouldn't look right, would it.
