Good evening all,
Firstly thanks for any help given but I've never used a forum platform before so didn't want to go posting randomly all over the show.

I managed to pick my self up a nice eBay deal recently as a bit of a fixer upper project, A Claud Butler 'Corsa' frame set along with brakes , seatpost , derailleurs etc.

My issue however is to do with the serial number.
From some reading on this forum and others I have made the much suggested link to the nkilgarrif.com site and the serial suggests the bike to be an earlier model.

Where would be best on this forum to forward such a detective case onto for a little more clarification?.

Thanks again and apologies if this is posted in the wrong place . PXL_20250530_141405684.webp

I don't know much about the Butler serial #, but as stated by "Guiness" mid 80s is a good estimate. 501 tubing was a seamed and butted tube. I doubt the frame is earlier than '84; '83 at earliest (and I don't think 501 was available for that long; ~5yrs ?). I have a Batavus ('85-'86) made with 501 and it does (now actually did; steerer threads shot) well on longer distances (+25 mile) and climbing. Certainly stiff enough on my frame (52 cm); but I cannot attest to how a larger frame like yours might respond.

Given the 501 tubing it be would mid level; frame fittings (e.g. drop-outs), components, and/or finish (chrome, panto's, etc.) would better determine if a higher or lower in the model range. Chainstay length will give you a better indication as to use (clubman, tour, race, etc.).
