Finally got it - Ciocc 88

samsbike

Retro Guru
Finally picked up my 88 Ciocc.

Its a bit rough in the paintwork (especially the underside of the top tube as it was hanging on hooks) and the chrome. Cabling will need to be redone and it comes on tubs, which I confess I have no idea about.

I do like the look of it and the sizing suits me better with a 58cm seat tube and 55cm top tube.

Cinelli bars and stem (does anyone know if they are 26 or 26.4?) and it has the black logo on the stem.

Mostly chorus bits, except for the shifters (simplex) and the rear mech.

Its got a couple of interesting bits, like the screw thing for the number and no bridge at the bottom of the chain stays.

Any advice on how best to go forward appreciated.

Sorry for the poor pictures, new phone and I am not sure what I am doing.

I like that, questions the bars look REALLY deep drop what are they named and numbered?. the paint reminds me of
PDM 's on their concords ?
'screw thing for the number' any chance a close up pic.

thanks for the comments

The bike is a bit of an oddity as it does not have ciocc on the seat stays but I am happy with its authenticity as it belongs to a friend at work, who used to race it when he was younger. The levers are unfortunately scratched to prove it.

He did say he bought it on the basis he liked the PDM team at the time and its definately a 88 model, although I can find very little about it on the web.

I am going to change out the stem and bars to some nitto stuff as I would like to try the noodles.

Still need to figure out how to get the chrome free of rust spots as the tinfoil and water/ coke trick did not work that well.

I also need to sort out the gearing as I want to be able to run a modern hub on it.

Will try and post some better pics over the next week or so.

augh , so pdm might have used cioccs before concordes? ?
you wont get the spots out cause the chrome is no longer in those tiny pitts.
a very tiny dark pit is the best you will get,
try 'robbied's' trick oxalic acid powder and water [cheap on ebay] mines still in the larder, unused
but ive seen his pics and the results look very favourable.
m m noodle bar's ? each man to his own !

I have been posting about this bike for awhile and have finally managed to get it on the road.

It orginally came with record hubs with gp4 and tubs, 6 speed block and cinelli finishing kit.

The campag stuff had to go as this is supposed to be my dry weather commuter and I can't be doing with punctures etc (mainly because my commute takes me long enough as it is without the added hassle of stopping to fix something that takes me ages).

I had a set of ultegra hubbed hewitt wheels which just about fit and the 9 speed block with chain just about cleared the chainstays. As the triumphe derailleur wasnt going to work I got a long cage ultegra and some dura ace 9 speed dt shifters. I am still not convinced I can run big chainrings on the front but have overspent and will have to live with it.

The cinelli stuff was too low, so I got some noodles and a technomatic. The bars look odd to me so I may try and rotate them down a little and see if I am still comfortable.

Its the first time I have ridden a steel bike for any distance and despite running M+s it really is comfortable, a lot more than my old genesis equilibrium (which had a carbon fork as well).

Its got a lot of patina (I am being polite) and I do worry about the chrome chainstays which are not in great nick.

However its lovely to ride despite the toe overlap and lack of proper mudguards.

bugger cant post pics at work, so will have to wait.
