After over a year i drove a golf gti again last night.

Picked up the high mileage beast from grimsby last night for a measley 200 quid. Taxed and tested! In my mind that's a bargain.

There are a few issues with it that need sorting before i can use it daily but it drove pretty well on the way home. Took the b roads of course.

Plan is to sort the brakes and steering. New suspension all round and return the body to its former glory. Then i'll stick my porsche or bbs split rims on and we are away!

I'll stick a pic up when i get to work.

Sorry to be a car bore but i'll well happy!

Nice! :D

I miss my MK II GTI.It was my first car and someone wrote it off for me.

I wasn't even in the car at the time!! I was in my LBS picking something retro up, as is the case. when I got back to my car someone had crash into the side of it with such force it looked like a banana, only not yellow and black, but It's lovely red colour.

I asked around in the shops where the car was parked outside, just to get blank looking faces.

Anyway she's gone and I am still sad!! :( ho hum.

That Jetta is sweet!

Talking of All things VAG and older, who's doing Stanford Hall next weekend?

al. :D

eck that jetta is lovely. quick question ref the g60 arches.

i am fitting 7" front and 9" rear 17" porsche wheels to the golf. if i go low they are going to catch the arches at the bottom where the return lip is.

do the g60 arches fit in the same way as standard arches? ie screwed into that return lip?

i am thinking of chopping the return lip off and either bonding the arch to the wing or running without arches.

or getting the arches rolled.

al, might be off to stamford, but nothing finallised. are you going?

Yeah! I'm going up.

Not with the Notch though, with ol' red the 80 Coupe!

I was going to give it a miss this year, but It's just one of those layed back shows I really enjoy. Not far from Penzance either!

I have to meet up with the Rebel Alliance aswell as i am not doing any other big shows this year and will be letting the side down and will be called a girl!

yes if you go really low the wheels will catch the arches :(

i rolled the arches myself then bonded the plastic arches on :D

now , one of my mates bought 2 sets of front g60 arches and flipped 2 of them round and modified them to fit the rear (just a case of trimming them with a grinder and a little fiddle to fit) he runs 18" 9" wide rims on the back and they fill the arches perfectly , he also had to stiffen up the suspension .

i don't have any pics :? i thought i had , i'll grab some next time i see him

Mk2 with a VR6 lump in it, few mates of mine have had these over the years, VW awesomeness!!

The Rallye's not to shabby either, but needs work on the G60 lump, to get good power.

Nice buy lewis, look forward to seeing it fixed up.

Love the Rallye too.

Quite fancy a Golf one day, ideally a late Mk1. Had the cash on my mantlepiece for a Mk2 16v at one point but it never quite came to pass.
