After over a year i drove a golf gti again last night.

Picked up the high mileage beast from grimsby last night for a measley 200 quid. Taxed and tested! In my mind that's a bargain.

There are a few issues with it that need sorting before i can use it daily but it drove pretty well on the way home. Took the b roads of course.

Plan is to sort the brakes and steering. New suspension all round and return the body to its former glory. Then i'll stick my porsche or bbs split rims on and we are away!

I'll stick a pic up when i get to work.

Sorry to be a car bore but i'll well happy!

get the pics up, never owned a GTi before but wouldnt mind one for a bike mobile.

used to have a mk2 gti look-a-like when i started driving......155,000 miles and drove like new until i wrote it off

now driving a 200bhp 2.8 v6 4motion passat estate with just 127,000 mile on it as a bike mobile, great fun even though i only get 250 miles out of £60

Is that with a heavy right foot or driven normally?

bit of both really, tried to go sensible but its hard when the engine sounds sooooo nice

had lots of fun against GTi golfs and corrado VR6's etc and they were quite surprised as i pulled away from them  though it can be a little hairy on B roads with it being so big, but 4 wheels drifts in the rain/snow was fun this winter.

im sure its a different engine than whats in the golf/corrado vr6......

very different! that baby is a 30 valver and is a propper v with 2 heads. the golf/corrado is a shallow v and has a common head.

isnt it funny how the nimber of pistons dictates the sound of an enging.

anyway, here's a link to project grandad gti...

my mate's dad is selline a 3 door big bumber. £700 with 12 months mot. got really excited when i was it as its sitting on gti steelies but alas its just a driver. nearly bought it though.

my dream is a 5 dooe, late model oak green 16v. the late models tend to have the electrics and power steering (for the wife - i prefer non power) and 5 doors would mean i dont have to sell it if a mini me comes along.

I had a Mk2 G reg 1.4 with no power steering, grey with the original Pioneer radio. It was mint.

I called it Murtle, found a nearly full service history in the little flap and had a laugh in it.

Even got a wave from an S-Type as I kept him from over taking on some twisty back roads which I new well.

my 130 TDI Passat is a bit of a monster at the lights, full pressure comes in at around 3000RPM so second gear just eats anything up to 35mph (and what usually happens is that they get so angry that they've been dissed by a taxi they carry on up to 50mph in a 30 zone and get caught by a handy T5 as I waft by at 31mph  )

Its a very early PD engine and my garage bloke said its '****in' fast when it gets goin'!'

you'll love my sisters old jetta then

it's a 16v big bumper model (1 of 500) i changed the whole front end over from a golf , badgeless grille , crystal headlights , eyebrow spoiler , g60 arches , 7" wide steelies (not cheapo banded ones either) they were made to order  spax coilovers , i think it was an itg induction kit ? , stainless exhaust , it ran a 15.039 quarter mile......

she sold it and bought a 2.8i capri
