Fed up and in pain

Way back in September whilst at the Peaks meet I came off. Nothing dramatic, front wheel went down a little drop and instead of me being able to roll through the bike just stopped and I went over the bars. Natural reaction is to stick your arms out.....and I did  Thanks to Wu-Tangled for picking me up, dusting me down and not taking the p15s!

Anyway, no real pain until a week or so later when making a coffee and almost dropping the kettle due to shooting pains across my hand and thumb. This continued, I moaned and the wife packed me off to the doc's who referred me immediately for an x-ray. The hospital found nothing :?

So.....I tried to ignore the sharp shooting pains, which over time have stopped but now become a regular, frequent dull ache. The wife kindly brought me a wrist support which I now wear every evening, because by the time I get home I am in agony.

I should have worn my support for the Alconbury ride, bloody forgot it, but by the end of the ride my wrist was screaming

For the last week I have been woken up by the dull throb in the middle of the night, and today (well, at about 2.30am) decided to go back to the doc's.

And do you know what he suspects it is?

Arthritis

Brought on by the fall! I am in shock.

Anyway, I will have to wait for further tests at the hospital having been referred for an appointment, along with physio.

The only pain relief I can get now are some ibuprofen tablets the doc recommends. They are the size of horse pills! Still, seem to be working as by now I am normally wincing.

Hey ho......

I can sympathise.

I dislocated and broke my right forefinger at the Real Ale Wobble 2 years ago. Despite joint injections it has never been the same again and now aches in certain weather, I can't close it fully and I can't open twist top bottles etc easily using that hand. Of all the injuries I have had this one I regret the most as it will never heal. And of all the useful fingers to happen to

Sorry about your pain, not as uncomon as you may think in us yournger people.

paracetomol ease the pain, ibuprofen ease any swelling.id go to the chiropractor, theye fantastic and sorted all my little and large, including a proper fekd back problem.do it before it gets worse and cost a fortune and your sanity :D

I'm still in pain from when I came off in Dalby a few months back in my hand.
Doctor say the sharp shooting pains are normal and the ligament healing.

He also recommended NOT to wear a wrist support as the ligaments in the arm are fragile and giving them support make them heal up weaker.

Unfortunately for me playing with the children, lifting them etc.. and riding my bike all aggravate it and cause the main pain.
Most the shooting pains are gone now,

I also had to stop taking Ibuprofen as I became sensitive to it and moved to Paracetamol. Neither now, I just live with it :(

I've tried, and failed :(

I was out for a ride about a month and half ago, a few miles into it i ran into another rider literally, anyway we had a coming together and i head butted him at roughly 20mph, split the top of my head open and gave me the mutha of all head aches, next day my neck was stiff as hell, but it went after a few days then this friday it came back all of sudden, went down the docs and i have whiplash

.

Search out a good sports physio.
I had the full work over by the guys at MM last year when I allegedly had 'mild ciatica', they fixed it and its never returned.
I was so relieved to be pain free :D

My elbow clicks due to a break from about 10 years ago , have crap movement in a little finger , a swollen thumb that lacks movement , damaged quadricep tendon , put my back out 7 or 8 years ago and if I stand for too long that aches . I've often wondered what it's like to live without constant pain but complaining about it wont stop it so I just get on with it . Apparently I have a high tolerance to pain

There are some good hand exercises on youtube , there are also some good hand exercises on youporn but you already know about those

I've been living with Arthritis for 16 years, which is why I don't do flat bars/rigid forks on MTB's or drops on road bikes.

Some days are good days, some not so good. The good days always outnumber the bad

I take painkillers & anti inflammatories daily, but still get flare ups once in a while

Find a good physio, they can help quite a lot

Once the results are back & which form of Arthritis it is is known then the correct treatment can begin & you will be back to normal, well whatever is normal in the Pickle household ;)
