FAT CHANCE Project 'Hippie'- your opinions sought.

Don't paint it white, it deserves better!!! Looks good, my only thoughts are about the symmetry, although trying to achieve that on a bike is tricky to say the least, and the colours; is it the photos or are the bike's colours lairier and less metallic than the car's?

Still fookin sweet and a million times better than I could do!

I hope I can manage to write this without offending so here it goes...

I think your idea is good, but perhaps the execution needs a little more thought.

It's going to be hard to replicate to some extent the original design as the original's swoopy lines followed the lines of the car. However with a bike there aren't those features to highlight.

Secondly with the original, the design is symmetrical, however with your rendition of the design, even though you have been following the colours and stuff you have gone for a none symmetrical design which has ended up looking like camouflage or a cow.

Thirdly your design is to busy, there is just to much happening. I think perhaps you should use this design to highlight and embellish features on the frame.

For example if you look at vintage ornate lugwork for inspiration (I know this doesn't have lugs) , but you could use this design and adapt it to work in these areas, e.g. head tube junction, bb area, etc..

Perhaps trace the design from the car and print it/cut it out, then hand lay these onto parts of the frame to help visualise how the design could work. Then scale each piece for added finesse.

I didn't mean to be to critical and hope all's good with whatever you decide. Best of luck and keep us posted.

P.S. I agree with Ross about the colours...Sorry!

Its back to just purple now, no green or White. There was no way of making it symetrical or follow the lines of the car- it's not a car, it's a bike. I think people have not got the idea- the idea was to use the colours and general psychedelic style from the hippie car (colours were close- that picture of the 917 is poor with the colours bleached by the flash). Anyway, can't be arsed now.

Cheers

Shame,I like it, its like towtally far out maaaan 8) Might even try to get you to paint a frame like that for me.Seriously :D

I think the problem here is comparing an excellent paint job to the car..

The paint on the car is symmetrical and almost tribal in its design.. although this was obviously seen as 'hippy' at the time. You could achieve a similar look on the frame with fine tribal highlights but at the moment its more camo cow...

However.. its cool, I really like it, its just a shame you posted a pic of the car, cause that it ain't. The colours are the obvious inspiration, not the design.

All I can say is I hope you haven't ditched it.. because it is uber cool! 8)

Noooooooo!

Don't ditch it Si, looks great...would be tempting to hang some anno green on there and some silver....

Would look great driven around on the bike rack of that car

Does anyone else have a matching car/bike combo? Ooh just had an idea of a thread, cars and bikes that match!
