Does anyone know what bottom brackets can be used for a Fat chance with a press in bottom bracket, are they hard to obtain or someone else makes a suitable replacement ?

thanks in advance :?

They take press fit bearings, a straight spindle (no shoulders), and two locking collars that were notorious for cracking (Rody sold me some replacements he made).

I'm pretty sure the spindle is a slightly different diameter than a standard straight steel or ti spindle, so ideally you want a stock Fat replacement spindle. If you have a straight spindle with a 7mm diameter (which is fairly standard), you should be able to find a bearing that will fit, but that may be to your advantage as the only ones I know of that fit a stock Fat spindle are crappy Chinese bearings.

However, the benefit of the bearings that go with the Fat spindle is that they having locking rings that sit against the lip of the bottom bracket shell and keep the bearings from drifting towards the middle of the spindle (at least, that's what I think they're for).

sancho is on point.

When I had to get this done in the past, I was lucky enough to find a donor pre-91 fat frame of the same type I needed. Also, every now and then a cook bros version of the proper spindle pops up on the bay.

Might want to check on Fatcogs as a member on there might be sitting on a stash of the bearings and spindles, and just might part with a spare for a good trade.

you can fit one of these mavic Bottom brackets- they don't need threads they press against the rim- I had one on an old dale- they come up on the bay every now and again and are pretty bomb proof so a good alternative to the spindle fat pain in the bum route. Think there are cheaper bottom brackets that do the same thing YTS rings a bell seem to remember sjs cycles did one....

thats great, cheers and monster now coming my way 8)

gary, might be true, but it simply doesn't look right if you are trying to get your Fat just right. Now if you have it as a beater or rider, then might work.
