- like a tapered steel fork for a tapered headtube, it's not as if it's never been done before.

If he'd done that wouldn't it have run the risk of people complaining the fork didn't look like the old one? Granted though, 1 1/8th forks in oversized or tapered headsets rarely looks good.

I guess. It's a rock and a hard place. The frame doesn't look like the old one, so why should the fork? And if you're going to make the fork look just like the old one, why not make the frame look just like the old one? And if you made the frame like the old one, people would complain that it wasn't for current standards. You said it yourself - you can't buy a decent sus fork that isn't tapered anymore.

What Sinnerman is saying makes sense to me. Make it current but make it elegant.

Re:

It's growing on me  Don't mind the cable guide position but it defo needs beefier gauge fork tubes and crown to stay in proportion, then loose the front facing gussets. I bet it will ride the twisties like a dream 8)

Speaking of comebacks, the new Onza steel hardtails are nice:

Re:

I must be old (fashioned) but I just think hardtails with anything over 100mm forks look crap. Reason I didn't put my name down.

650b Rosko. Proof a modern big wheel, rigid bike with most modern day accommodations can look good, ride well.

Doesn't look like a tapered/44 head tube though, which restricts your options to use a Modern fork. I don't necessarily think that it needs it, as if you're happy running rigid for good then there is no point, just sayin'.
