I dont think friend deletes are secret anymore, they show up on timeline.
Well you don't have to use timeline, and you don't have to make your wall public.

Why not just tell her.
Well sometimes being overt about things can create more issues than just being more subtle about it, and having less to do with somebody.

Where facebook is concerned, that did (used to at least) be easier, because you could remove people from your friends list silently.

Here's an explanation even Retrobikers should understand.

Happy to help.

The Angry Birds one is class, and the google one is nostalgic - that's how it used to be using the internet - I first used the internet on Windows 3.1 in the early 90s, and BBSs before dial-up ISPs were reasonably available.

If you delete a 'friend', then surely they aren't a 'friend' so why would you give a ****?

Exactly, just say "it's not you it's me, I just don't like you anymore".

As a generalism, people don't tend to like announcing that they don't like somebody any more - in general it's a needless negative. Sure, there are some perhaps with less social nuances than others, that would be blunt - but being blunt isn't always the best thing. Sometimes being subtle and unnoticed maybe more the thing.

By that I mean some people may not want any more contact with somebody - or have had generally no contact in a while, and just want to prune things - so why announce something and potentially put somebody's nose out of joint, if you don't have to?

In some circumstances the opposite is probably better - sometimes there's no other way of getting the point across, other than being blunt - but I'd say that's more the exception than the rule.

Don't know why I'm bothering saying this, though, facebook ain't really my thing - as I mentioned before, my misanthropy doesn't go down well at all on there.
