Fab tune, I just love it...

Yes, the future is written in the past maybe.

But Herr Manelig is a Swedish fairy tale sung in German I think, but I love the fusion of medieval style with metal and wth that I understand a lot of what comes out of Scandinavia in terms of metal is pretty good stuff, dark, but enigmatic, and with that I also like Opeth;

The band say they are inspired by the landscape of Sweden, if so, yep, I can feel that in some of it.

Is good but my preference is bands where the music dominates the lyrics, it was why when I was at the smithy last year Rammstein was the music of choice for forge work, one couldn't hear the lyrics never mind understand them, all it was, was good sounding metal !

But music in a language I don't understand I like, because lyrics themselves are music and why I listen to a lot or Arabic music, if the timing shifts don't thrill you the wonderment of what they are saying does. But the timing in Arabic music is very impressive, take a listen at the trad stuff, often it is a breath of fresh air and that darabuka playing that fast, just so impressive and I have a darabuka and know through that what the skilled do is something else.

The only trouble with Arabic music, is now I am beginning to learn what some of the words mean, habibi this that and the other.

Sigur Ros I also like but that is no language.

I need me some more tunes.. The Gael is one of my all time favourite pieces..

The rest I need to get more of, early indications are that much time could be passed with that in my ears 8)

.

You'll like Irfan then.... Saw them warm up for Valravn a couple of years ago and they were really rather good.

Irfan I have heard of, but the Gael, has anyone heard the original version of it created by Dougie MacLean before the movies got hold of it, there is a recording of it on youtube somewhere

Ah, found it ;

But as usual within the comments there are people suggesting MacLean didn't in fact create it and it is older.

But of music is there really any combination of musical notes that has not been revamped time and time again ? But as I pick up some bits that I have heard in other songs it is natural to associate with the past, so that is another reason I delve into world music to hear something different, but even with that there are similarities as the Afro Celt sound system proved. But of the Arabic music I listen to there is bagpipe music in some of it, as there also is in Scandinavian music as well as Irish and Scots. It's just the Scots make the most dominant use of the bagpipe and I love pipe music.

Yup.. I usually just listen to The Search as a whole rather than forwarding just to that bit.
