F1 legend: Pirelli tires are dangerous

Is it not part of the agreement that the tyres should last a certain number of laps but not too many meaning tyre changes are necessary? So to make tyres that only last x number of laps but stick like glue then we get ones that wear rapidly and then hit a wall where they must be changed. Probably over simplifying it all..,

That is bang on.

If anyone is liable it would be those who briefed P. to make the tyres degrade that way.

I reckon they ought to look for less injurious ways to spice up the racing.

Used to work with one an ex Pirelli engineer. He always said they could build a tyre that could let cars drive up walls but it wouldn't last more than 10 metres. F1 wanted more pit stops, that is what Pirelli have given them. Tyres shed rubber, it's always a compromise between grip and longevity. Shit happens.

Pirelli have only had just over a year to get their act together. From the comments of the drivers it appears they have done a good job of it.

I notice a huge difference on my front wheel drive car between tyres, have some lovely Pirelli on there now that grip like glue.

Over the years they have been the best tyres I have had on lots of cars.

If the FIA want to maintain the number of pit stops, but increase the longevity of the tyres, they should bring back refuelling.
