External HD problems...

I've got windows 7 on my laptop and for some reason today it stopped recognising my two old HDs from previous computers, annoyingly enough, when I plug them in it makes the 'da duh' removal sound, unplug them and it makes the 'duh da' plugged in noise....

I've tried looking in disk manager and the're not being seen anywhere....

Any ideas???

erm is it installing new drivers do you know?

try them in the old laptop, then the new one again

One now works but the other one (the one I actually need!) doesn't get noticed at all!

It stopped working when I was using itunes and itunes crashed.... any more ideas?!?!

They might be assigned the same drive letter, or none at all.

Right click MY COMPUTER
Click MANAGE
Select DISK MANAGEMENT

Can you see the drive in there? eg DISK 0,1,2 etc

Right click it if you can and change drive letter or assign one.

If you can't see it in there then the disk or the USB caddy is knackered or not being recognised.

The disk might be recoverable if you need to data by taking it out and putting it in another caddy.
