Hi

I would like to know your views or opinions about 'extender' that goes in the threaded forks for ahead stem use, are they safe, strong and reliable to use?, is any of you are using them on your current bikes?

Thanks

You mean the converter quill things which the ahead stem clamps round?

I've run one for 2000 miles on a drop bar tourer with no problems. Mine is a Deda Elementi one. Looks neat, works well.

Yes that's correct Hamster

I've used one on various bikes for about a year now with no problem- and I'm a little more portly than i used to be so no strength issues. There's obviously a slight weight disadvantage but opens up stem options

can you use it not just to convert threaded to ahead but also extend a short threaded to a long ahead (or is the clue in the name? )?

I have one I think that came on a bike used simply to extend the headtube. It has a quill on the end, and had a quill stem in it at the top too. Not sure if the diameter is right for it to be used for ahead too.

It's taking up space in my shed if anyone wants it for postage costs.

I've ben using one for the last four years on my'88 Explosif.

I can't remember where I got it from but it does the job just fine as far as I'm concerned. :D

Can you use an extender on a threadless steerer tube forks and ahead stem? is that possible or it only worked on threaded forks?
