Expensive Lava Dome

Is £200 really way over the top? I paid £175 for a 94 lava dome recently - think I might have overpaid a bit :(

Yep. Got my recent Lava Dome purchase down to £95 and I still think I overpaid :? Not a great deal salvagable beyond the frameset and the respray for that was £80...

It is in fact a 96 Lava Dome not a 97, in the option green (not often seen, as the burnt orange colour was most people's favourite).

A burnt orange one in size 18 once sold for £413, still with its P2s, but with excellent upgrades to the drivetrain and hand0built wheels, kevlar tyres etc. That seemed over the top, but it's basically a very good quality frame andeverything was in good condition, so it would make an excellent commuter or mtb and you wouldn't need to spend anything for a good while, so if that was what you wanted, maybe it made sense.

I agree though that a £120 starting bid plus £200 buy it now doesn't seem the best way of running this auction. A size 16 is worth less anyway, and with the declared issue over the rear wheel, they might not get a bid.

It's subjective as bikes will only go for what someone is willing to pay.
I don't think I would pay more than £110-£120 for a Lava Dome or £175 for a Cindercone. Having said that I've picked up Kilaeua's for £200 in the past but also spent £370 on a Explosif frame with Bombers.
So really pay what ever you are happy to pay!

I got my 91 explosif for 200 that made me pretty happy. Gave it the treatment and its bloomin reet gorgeous now :D

It was black. Maybe I have the wrong year in mind?? Here are the before and afters. Think the build ended up costing about 700 but was worth it. A great handling bike!
Am wanting to get hold of a 16" explosif or kilauaea frame to build up for my girl.
You have to love the old steel frames!!

you've got the right year, all of the 1991 Konas were available in black.
I'm on the look out for a Purple '91 Explosif at the moment as below!
