Even badder man

Abaca

Old School Hero
At it again, another visit to the recycling centre and the guys let me go backstage and wow some amount of bikes!

Is this GT Palomar retro?

Was a toss up between this and a carrerra krakota! kinda wished i plumped for the carrerra but this was in better nick, think it's too small for me (16) so may sell on and go back for the carrerra.

What would you guys do? The carrerra paint job is really nice but looks like she has seen better days.

Re:

I don't think either the GT or the Carrera are particularly "high end", but perfectly serviceable as a cheap runabout. I can't see much, but it looks like the Carrera has nicer components than the GT, a nicer chainset anyway. :D

What is worrying is the amount of cheap "BSOs" there; it rather undermines the bicycles green credentials if people are buying cheap bikes in large numbers and then throwing them away a few years later. :?

Re:

I would hope people woould have enough sense to doante back to the recycling centre when the bike is no longer needed, not sure how often that happens though.

Size wise a 16 for somebody 5'8-9 bad idea??

Had a buyer contact me and bought the gt,just wasn't for me.
Only question remains do I buy the Carerra??

Re:

I briefly had one of those Carreras a while back. Buy it if you like it as they're reasonable bikes. Nothing flash but will do a job and a better bike then the low end GT.

I'm quite taken by the paint job on it,any ideas how long the dropouts are? Might make it singlespeed

The krakatoa is a 90/91 model with long enough drop outs for ss if memory serves. Frame was chromoly (can't remember what flavour) all 3 main tubes, hi ten fork chromol
y steerer and 300 ls gruppo. And the paint on carreras back then was really good. (and ..."inspired" by konas as were the names. I'd check the dropouts just in case I am wrong, but I remember them as diagonal. You could always fit a tensioner.
