Estimating the age of my Orbit TT bike, and strange parts...

Hello

I am trying to estimate how old my recently acquired Orbit TT frameset is.

It has 126mm rear spacing and allen key fit brakes. I was told it was from 1982 but the allen key brake fitting suggest it might be later?? It is built of 531c and takes 700c wheels from and rear.

The paper headbadge on the headtube is one of the original Orbit red badges which says the frame was built and brazed in Sheffield. There is another sticker on the seat tube which confirms that the frame complies with the relevant british standard.

The frameset came with a variety of parts including a very light CLB brakeset and an extraordinary Solida chainset with a solid outer chainring which is welded to the crank (looks a super professional job) - has anyone ever seen one of these - can't find anything on google.

Stronglight BB and Spidel headset complete the build with some Leotard pedals. I started by taking it all apart and am giving it a good clean and rebuild. It looks like it will be great, just need to find appropriate wheels.

I will try to post pictures at the weekend.

I remember these being one of the first off the peg lo pro bikes. If its the one Im thinking of it was priced as an entry level machine but I seem to remember seeing Pete Longbottom use one and he was a top class tt'er. I reckon its about 84/85 ish. Any chance its white and yellow?
