What is the reasoning behind a epoch headset? Just removed the remaining bits from the mf courior and it has/had a epoch headset....

Now from looking it up, It seems thats the type of headset if im correct? As gt had one too...

It says MORI JAPAN EPOCH on it...

Its got some wierd ratcheted spring inside it?...
Just found this searching on another site...

wow that does look weird. At a guess I'd say the spring always keeps the threaded stuff under tension to stop it coming loose..?

Then you know that the Epoch headset was designed for BMX use, my guess, is self tightening given that BMX headset get a good hammering when in use due to the nature of a BMX.

ooooh different

I havnt got any bmx's tho lol

Possibly not, but the pictures you showed in the OP were from a BMX related website, hence my saying what I did.

If Cyfa drops by , he might know more about them.

Or ask about them in the BMX area of Retrobike.

Hi
I haven't seen one of these since the 80's, had one on my BMX bind, originally made by MORI and then by GT who replaced the top cover with a cheap plastic one.

Assemble the headset then tighten by hand then insert the spring into the groove in the steerer then coil the spring around in the ratchet until fully coiled, that should keep your headset adjusted.

Daz.

Yeah mines a mori branded one, Chrome cups and that cap over the spring...

Cool looking thing. Might give it a tidy up and put it to one side till i find something to fit it to.

Its not realy worn out either.. :D WIN WIN

When i took it appart i thought it was buggered , But it turned out it just had what was left of several spiders dead under it...
