English frame id?

Retro Newbie
Hi folks. Looking for help in identifying this frame. The bike was purchased c.1980 by my Dad used from a local racer in North Yorkshire and repainted. It came with full Campagnolo equipment apart from the SR Royal crank and bottom bracket.

Only markings are the serial stamped on the rhs of the BB - JA1901 (JA- Jackson?) . BB is English. Unusual "fastback" seat stay with fancyish lugs, smooth shouldered internally lugged fork crown, Zeus dropouts, chromed fork and stays.

I have done a fair bit of looking & would appreciate any thoughts as I am planning to restore this bike. Thanks, Ed.

Re:

The shot in seat stay arrangement onto a backplate rather straight into the tube is very 1970's JF Wilson of Sheffield. If so, Jim Wilson would have been the frame builder. His son Nigel still runs the shop. Google JF Wilson and see if nigel can confirm

Nice looking frame, late 60's running into the 70's.loads of builders used the shot in design into a plate like that from the Carlton Pro to the Mercian Super light. Any sign of any holes in the head tube? Zeus dropouts were uncommon and I guess back then they would have come from Ron Kit.

Thanks pigman & Midlife. I made contact with Nigel at J F Wilson at pigman's suggestion and his response was that it looked like a Jim Wilson frame from the 70's with the shot in stays and Zeus lugs. Pretty pleased about that as you can imagine. Obviously they have only seen the photos so I can't say it's 100% until I can confirm the JA1901 frame number.

Being in Yorkshire myself and knowing the bike was used by a local rider is also a pointer towards a Yorkshire builder possibly?

In response to Midlife, the head tube has no holes in it & I will look into the Carlton /Mercian angle too. I'll provide updates when I have them & thanks again. Regards, Ed.
