End to End

So, whilst admiring the view from Windsor Great Park tonight on a ride out with a pal, we decided to commit to a Lands End to John O Groats ride in 2012.

Anyone have any experience of this/tips/advice they wish to share?

I was looking at this the other day, CTC is probably your best bet for info and maps.

I'm really keen on the off road route, its longer, but looks a damn site more fun:

I was browsing CTC last night, the scenic route does look superb, but its also a lot longer and id have to arrange approx 3 weeks off work which may be problematic.

I reckoned on 70 miles a day. I got as far as kit lists and a trial run but then got a gob so couldn't do it. Mine was going to be unsupported camping most nights sort of trip.

Can't you tell them you are doing it for charity, and ask for some extra time off?

Its easy enough to set up a sponsor page on Just Giving, and the charity of your choice gets some wonga too.

Some employers would jump at the chance to be associated with something like that.
