Eddy Merkcx Corsa Extra Team 7-Eleven full restoration....

Dirt Disciple
Hi all, onto the next build my Eddy Merckx Team 7-Eleven. I bought this frame and forks on eBay and had been looking for a suitable one for a number of years! I actually bought this frame set during a family holiday which didn't go down to well with the misses :x When the frame set arrived from Scotland nicely packed and at first glance looked spot on. A week later I decided to put it in the stand and woundred if it really needed to be restored as it looked at first glance it looked decent or just build it up with the very nice Shimano 600 tri colour groupset that I had but together. It was then that I noticed that there was a rub mark on the left inside stay on the rear triangle. After a more detailed look at the rear dropouts to my horror I so the crack in the right side rear dropout  I contacted the seller who assured me that he didn't know about it Hummmm. In fairness he refunded me over 50% of the price I paid including postage! Luckily for me one of my mates is a frame builder so after some detective work to find the correct Campagnolo dropouts. I think I ended up getting them from Holland for about £20.00 quid posted. So as these dropouts needed to be fitted my mind was made up for me to full restore it, as the chrome which was in good nick would be damaged when heated to replace the cracked dropout! More posts to come On this build regards Gibbo.

Really sorry to see that, though not anywhere near as disappointed as you were I bet.
Unusual to see them cracked and the chrome looks good around it too, just one of those unlucky things maybe.
Best of luck with the restoration and I will follow closely.
All the best
Jamie

Re: comments

Hi mate yes its just one of those things a bit annoying but life goes on. The frame overall more so the chrome was in excellent condition before the repair was done! More about the build and the paint job in a week or so Gibbo.

Re: Team 7-eleven build

Hi Jamie, thanks very much for the kind comments. Looking forward to putting the Shimano 600 tri colour groupset on it. More pictures to follow

To be fair I love a full resto, I like the bikes looking brand new and this looks fantastic.

Look forward to seeing more as the build goes on.

Re:

Hi Maca. I have to admit I personally prefer them looking like they have just rolled out the bike shop back in the day!! Will sort some photos of the build later this weekend. And if your interested I did a full restoration on a 1983 Greg Lemond Tourmalet Team Gan replica. A few months ago for a customer. It's further down on the next page or two if you want to have a look thanks for the comments regards Gibbo.

Re:

Looking forward to seeing more build pics. I'm waiting to get my mxl repainted but can't decide what scheme to go for
