That's one of the nicest Merckx bikes I've seen and I'm incredibly fussy! The Stuttgart colours were stunning..

Thanks.

Regards the Telekom paint. Have you spoken to Argos about it then? Did they say anything about the shade of pink? I think I heard Telekom were quite protective of it and refinishers therefore wouldn't use it. Don't know if that is still the case but might be worth asking.

We spent quite a long time with colour samples and found a match for the Pink which is a RAL colour and was called 'TeleMagenta' which sounds hopeful!
The Violet is the only one that needs mixing. We did take the samples out into natural light because as you say the Telekom pink is quite a vibrant colour and it would be a shame to loose it.

As regards cost, a lot of this is chrome as the fork, sea tube and rear triangle all need re chroming to cover the chrome detail on drop outs and front mech hanger etc.
I'm not that hung up about it, Argos are local and do an excellent job, included in the price as well are getting out stuck BB and the remaining snapped of adjuster, supply & fit a headset and as few other mundane jobs.

Will post an update once I can but I can't wait to see it done!

Bob Jackson have always been first class and I doubt if the cost would even be half of what you've mentioned here.

As you say, how on earth do frames get so badly treated?! Any bike I have ever owned has always parted my company with a couple of scratches at the very most!

It will be awesome when it's renovated tho'!

That's not bad if it includes chrome - People are dropping out of the chroming market as the traditional methods are not so eco-friendly. I've had a couple of frames blasted and painted recently and for a couple of colours and decals I paid £210 for the first and £180 for the second (including fitting of headset and BB)

^^^^ this, my Wilier Scandium frame was refinshed by Argos for about £160 in a single colour, the Dyna Tech was done for about double that with masking and 2 colours, supply & fit decals and headset.

Chrome costs a lot to do, mainly because the plating only covers what is underneath, so the finish on the tubing has to be pretty spotless before it is added.

Quick update...

I have stripped and cleaned all of the components, have a nice NOS Ultregra 6600 seat pin and am awaiting the 6th of June with baited breath. D-Day indeed.

The wheels are done as well, I laced them myself but left tensioning & truing to Ralph Colman Cycles in Taunton as I haven't built wheels in years!

Pictures once I get them sorted out.

6th of June is the completion date, almost scared to call to see if it will be finished in time in case I'm disappointed!
