ebay found a new way to screw with buyers

Hey guys,

here´s a little rant just to get it out of my system and to get to know if something like this happened to one of you also.

So I was watching a nice Orange Stage Evo frame on ebay UK the whole week as my SC Superlight is now getting a bit long in the tooth (I really like me a single pivot). Come Sunday evening I was bidding in the last seconds of the auction (as you do) and after the time ran out I was the highest bidder (or so I thought), but then was greeted with the message „We're determining the winner. Please refresh the page.“ Albeit confused I did so and to my horror, in the next minute or so I saw that the end bid was steadily climbing and I was consecutively outbid?! WTAF?!

In the bid history which I downloaded stat I can see now that I allegedly was not bidding in the last seconds, but 1 Minute before?! Ok I did not cross check with the actual time, but when I bid it said „15 sec remaining“, so what gives? So from my perspective it is seemingly now possible to be outbid after the auction already ended! I mean in 25 years (gulp) on ebay I never had this happen and I quite enjoy the last minute bidding war when all the cards are on the table. It just seems now that these fun times are over.

So does anyone had something similar happen?

Still fuming
Dr

I’ve read that ebay are changing how bids work. Basically the last 2 mins is extended to allow all bids to come in.

Stops the sniping and last minute bids winning.

Think it was being tested in certain categories

It's something that ebay are experimenting with, read about it the other day, although not on bike sales.

Trading cards  Pretty sure I wasn´t bidding on these.

Yeah just like @bobby-gg said. I get that using snipe bidding programs can ruin the fun also, but I always did it "manually". Cheap (or not) adrenaline rush for me. I blame the ones with slow internet connections, sore losers 🤣

They can do with some more testing then. I could not alter my bid again as the auction ended for me just as usual. And in the bid history one can see that the time my bid was registered was allegedly 1 Min (+15 sec) behind what I thought was the end time.

When you click on links to various merchants on this site and make a purchase, this can result in this site earning a commission. Affiliate programs and affiliations include, but are not limited to, the eBay Partner Network.
Also quite poor to change the rules of the game without letting the players know 🤬

But thanks guys for letting me know, did not find anything on their page yesterday. Rage induced blindness I guess.

No doubt I'm being thick but I don't understand this. Are bids being accepted after the specified end time?
(I always get my bid in with 2 seconds to go (well maybe 2 1/2) and always seem to be the last bidder. Twice the 'puter's stuck and it hasn't made it in time though).

That´s what it seems like. Auction ended, highest bid for me. Then the new to me pop up message „We're determining the winner. Please refresh the page“ with the (not so) winning bid beneath instead of the "congrats you win blabla". In the next minute I watch the "winning bid" in the pop up window climb until it´s just over my highest bid. One person submitted 3 additional bids after the auction ended for me.

Wow, that's buggered it all up then. Seems ridiculous.
...Will you be able to just add on an extra 2 mins before getting your late bid in, as before?
