Ebay find - how lucky am I? Lovely Woodrup content

I picked this up yesterday and have already been out on it twice!

It's a stunning Woodrup, spec as follows:

Reynolds 731 o/s tubing with extended seat and head tubes with beautiful lugwork. This must have taken a lot of effort to put together. I understand that the carbon forks are original and that this was the first Woodrup ever built with a carbon ahead fork (I've contacted Woodrup for further info). It looks bigger than it is, due to the extended tubes - it's only 56cm c to c top tube and 55cm c to c on the seat tube.

The spec is as follows:

Campag: Chorus carbon cranks, Record carbon seatpost, Record down tube shifters, Record braze on front mech, Veloce 10 speed rear mech, Veloce callipers
A pair of Scott branded wheels (not great but good enough) with a 10 speed Ultegra cassette fitted
Fizik Arione Ti saddle
ITM Wing Bars
Had a Deda stem on it but I've put a slightly shorter Syntace one on there
Tektro aero levers

The spec is a bit of a mish mash and most of it isn't period to the frame (I'm guessing early 90's) but it's all very good stuff and the bike is reasonably light. Before collecting it, I thought I might ivest in some Ergo levers for it, which would need a new rear wheel and cassette. Now I've got it, I like it the way it is!

The ride is absolutely sublime - I've got a new and very modern carbon best bike and although that's lovely (and expensive) I'm not sure I'm not going to enjoy riding this more!

Re:

Nice bike , like the colour ,

How well do the Campag gear levers work with the Shimano cassette ?

That frame has "Kevin Sayles" written all over it :) is there a small decal somewhere on the frame with an "S" in a heart shape?

Google Kevin Sayles and see what crops up :)

Mike Muz 67 - they are not indexed so the levers work perfectly, rally light action and I get a silent running drivetrain - perfect really!

Midlife - wow, I'm glad I looked - he's built some lovely stuff and I agree with you that it looks like his work. I've had a look for the "S" but can't find one - I've written to Woodrup to try to find more info about it - in the meantime, thanks for the info

Really nice find velocipede, looks smart.
You can't really go wrong with a Woodrup.

Re:

Midlife - I contacted Woodrup and Kevin himself responded. he did indeed build this in 1993.

Now the problem is that I've been lured into the world of bespoke frames (after many years) - and I've asked Kevin to build me a set of forks for it, which of course will have to be chromed, and I'm thinking about having a stem built by him aswell - so now what started out as a cheap ebay find is turning into a monster! I'm considering selling my nearly new carbon bike and rebuilding the Woodrup with modern Dura Ace - it's so nice to ride and to look at I'm not sure I can help myself!!

You Jammy, Jammy *** !

Here's a small pic my Kevin Sayles Built TT bike from 1974/75, when Kevin was 17 years old or thereabouts, my most cherished frame :)

Let me know how you get on with the forks........I'm tempted to ask him to build a set for a CarHall 80's TT frame which is missing the forks.

As lucky as a very lucky thing that`s lucky!

Had a 531db Woodrup back in the early 80`s, bought it off one of the Cherry Valley guys, gorgeous thing and probably the best frame I have ever owned

That, however, is different league

Excellent.Sell the carbon and finish the woodrup. The woodrup will have soul and become part of you.A carbon never will. That is one nice bike. Love all the details
Regards
Peter
