Does your feedback matter to you in terms of selling on ebay, or do you just buy?

I'm struggling to see why it matters - beyond having a certain amount of feedback as a buyer, in order to not have complications with certain auctions requiring a minimum feedback score, what does it really matter?

I only ever buy on ebay - and truly couldn't care less what sellers do in terms of feedback. If something I buy goes really well, or shows a really good seller, I'll be motivated to leave feedback, otherwise, it's whether I can be bothered or not.

It's part of e-bay.

It's an optional part of ebay. It's not compulsory, nor should it be.

I sell & buy and it's only correct and fair to leave feedback.

The world is rarely correct or fair, or matches invididuals' preferences.

Plus those sellers should think i may want to buy from them again. But i wont be now. Their loss.

Well that cuts both ways. ebayers that mither me for feedback are likely to discourage me from dealing with them again.

I leave feedback if I can be bothered, or something from the deal strikes me sufficiently to want to make a point. When I buy, I look that a certain level of feedback is there - ideal that they're a "Top Rated Seller", if not that, then I look to see if there's neutrals or negs. Beyond that, though and it's largely superfluous to me.

I can understand business sellers being very focussed on their feedback - because it probably truly makes a difference to how well they sell. But as a buyer? Sometimes you just have to accept that the world is not exactly as you'd like it to be - otherwise, dragons, and stomach ulcers be there.

As of 2008, Paypal doesn't release payment to the seller until either (a) positive feedback has been given to the seller for the transaction, or (b) 21 days have passed without a dispute.

So every time a buyer "can't be bothered" to leave feedback, the seller has to wait 21 days for their money... which is a real pain in the cock when the seller has made a special effort to get the item to the buyer as soon as possible. :x

Fair point - but then we are really talking about feedback for the buyer.

I guess the rules of the game are the rules of the game.

ebay is largely favoured in the buyers favour, from feedback policy, to buyer protection, to distance selling law.

All the same, though, as a buyer, if a seller wants me to leave feedback because of the above, then they can either leave me feedback as incentive or accept the world isn't an ideal place, or simply wait the 21 day period.

I treat ebay, mostly, like buying from any other e-tailer. I'm more inclined to give private sellers feedback, if they've done a good job. As to the big sellers on there, well it will depend on whether I feel particularly motivated, and / or can be bothered.

Bizarrely he left positive, then hassled me for the same which I ignored, then decided not only were the items broken they were also not as described, then (happily) messed about for 2 months before sending the items back. He posted three wooden chairs with no protection other than some bubble round them (no boxes), naturally they arrive in pieces and I refuse to refund him. He's too late to claim through Paypal so he's contacting his solicitor. Supposedly.

He's currently £300 out of pocket. I have some free firewood and a positive feedback.

I think that's only true if the seller doesn't have a linked account, which they probably should have. It's certainly never happened to me. If it did I wouldn't be back on Ebay at all.
