Ebay Etiquette

Well It's easy to say it could go cheaper, if I ship 2 Specialized tires inside Europe, the very cheapest way was like 24 euro's (yes 2 tires, they were over 2 kilo's together). Shipping to f.e. USA was way more.

So stick to it, the buyer should read it and be more carefull, by bidding you accept this.

And a question of making money out of shipping? Well if you will you do, it;s not my kind but if someone asks way to much for shipping I wont bid..

Cheers

As a buyer I get really REALLY annoyed for paying way over the top for postage but at the end of the day you cant really complain if its there in black and white on the auction and you agree to it??

Whether the cost is excessive or not, I only quoted as per Parcel2Go website for DHL standard international delivery.

I didn't include cost of packaging or my time like some sellers

Tell them if they can find a cheaper shipping method they can arrange it themselves.

I have to say that £40 is way high for 2 foldable tyres and you should definitely be able to ship them for cheaper (Royal Mail?). And no, I wasn't a winner for any of Kev's items.

Still, the most irritating thing is to pay for that kind of postage fees and then see the post office stamp/sticker with something like £10 on it.

I agree. £40 was the "Standard International Cost" which would have covered DHL to Australia or US. Royal Mail is cheaper (if the old lady in the PO will accept the parcel  ) but is only covered for 'lost' items up to £36 and I've had one incidence of a buyer saying an item wasn't received......so now I use DHL for valuable stuff sent internationally unless its to a Retrobike member whom I trust

Presumably they're not questioning your rates but asking if you'll combine postage for the two items?

If you had a lot of items for sale and they were bidding on many items, it would be difficult to ask for various combinations prior to the end of the auctions.

WHAT ?!? You know that I meant the shipping of the tyres. It's indifferent what kind of tyres they are. If the tyres have steel wired sidewalls, the box needs to be bigger, which raises the shipping costs but kevlar-beaded tyres can be fit into a quite small box and the weight would be in the ballpark of 1,5kg.

I always limit my bid to an appropriate amount in total, so if the seller wants an excessive amount for postage I bid that much less for the item itself. If everyone does that, then fine - but you can't then say can we stick to the low item price but reduce the postage charge.

But an overseas bidder for wire-bead tyres must be desperate - and if you're desperate, it costs.

Another one that I thought was cheeky was some Wildgrippers on there not so long ago... I said how much for the lot so he put some buy it nows on the auction but just before I went to bid he said he wont combine the postage which put about £32 on the tyres!!

I just learnt that the white Porcs are not foldable and Royal Mail doesn't accept that large packages for international shipping.

If one HAS to use courier companies, then the price raises to higher levels but if it's a necessity, what can you do.

I also have to mention that I never thought that Kev (or anyone else in here) would try to make additional money with shipping costs. But unfortunately some people on eBay continously try to do that and it annoys me.
