The freehub is 8-speed Shimano, but I believe you could get a 9-speed cassette on there. These were on my road bike which wasn't my main bike so they've covered 500 miles max. The braking surfaces are still flat. The brown you can see on the freehub is some old copper slip, not corrosion! Also no gouges to the drive-side spokes.
