Early Muddyfox Lovers Anonynmous

Re:

Hi

just recently I bought a 1987 Mountain Klein and was looking for a Deerhead group or a donor bike because I like the charme of the Deerhead XT on a Mountain Klein. I came upon this 1985 Muddy Fox The Monarch on Ebay Classifieds and was able to pick it up. First my wife said "we do have enough bikes, you can take the parts you need but everything elses goes to the junk". I have to admit, with the classics and modern bikes plus a just for fun open top Jeep in the garage space is getting a bit tight... But when I came home with the Muddy Fox she was like "oh, what a lovely bike" :). So I swapped the derailleur and shifters to the Mountain Klein and build up the Monarch with stuff I had here as a Retromod build. Only the Brooks saddle and the grips are brand new. I started mountainbiking in 1987 but got interested already some time earlier so I have a soft spot for Bullmoose bars and the visuals of these early-mid 80s Mountainbikes. After the build I now feel like I need to buy a Barbour Wax jacket or start a bicycle trip around the world or climb the Kilimanjaro by bike like the Crane brothers (cousins?). This is a keeper for sure. Space in the house is overrated :D

Long time listener, first time caller.
Here’s my old girl. Gets used all the time with a few days of hammering on the local trail every week too.

Judging by the decals and the (lovely!) little logo/panel it's the same year as the Monarch Sport I have, which I think is 96/97...

Here's what I did with mine BTW!...

Love what you did with that ............I’ve completely transformed mine to stage 1, going into stage now

Here’s stage 1 of the alloy pro .........first maiden voyage over the Bodmin beast .......now onto second rework. Just got to find time in between this and a 88 fox that will only be for easy life and original .....but part of me thinks, sod easy life....they were made to be ridden and upgraded to fit in with your environment .........
