Early Les Ephgrave Frame for sale - 23.5"

pierrelequeux

Retro Newbie
Les Ephgrave frame - 23.5"
Number - LE570 - 772
Black with hand painted gold lugs.
Stronglight headset included.

This is an incredibly beautiful frame, a classic lightweight from the 50's made by East London frame builder Les Ephgrave. I was very lucky to buy this frame 6 years ago from a lady in the Lake District. It was my first complete build and has stayed by my side since as my daily ride. I have had countless offers over the years but never enough to tempt me into selling it. I've just started a custom motorbike build and I need to raise some funds. The bike has been criticised by bike enthusiasts for not having the original fittings, I built this for comfortable daily use and it has been exactly that for 4 years now. However the bike is currently stripped down for it's spring clean up and therefor I'm selling the frame and headset only.

It will be going up on eBay at the weekend if it hasn't sold by then.

£875 - Open to sensible offers.

Re:

Very nice, but out of my league.
Must have been a joy to ride.
Can I ask what kind of handlebars were on it?
All the best, Rogier

It has been absolute joy to ride, I've had endless fun on it, it's so light and fast. More fun to ride than any other bike I've owned or ridden. The handlebars pictured are just NOS alloy drop handlebars - I wanted to give it the cafe look without compromising on comfort and it worked out perfectly. I'm starting to have second thoughts about selling it!

Partir c'est mourir un peu ;)
Sorry, couldn't help myself Pierre.

Having second thoughts after 22 minutes will probably result in having regret...

Out of interest: I assume it is a Les Ephgrave No 1... Is she bilaminated or does it have EKLA lugs? Do you have a strip on the top seatstays (see pic attached)?
Did you ever contact the marque enthusiast from V-CC...

Cheers, Rogier

Re:

Well said. I will definitely die a little inside when it goes. But I have to make way for my new project which will ease the pain I'm sure. I've always felt like I'm not doing it justice with the non original components so hopefully it'll go to someone who restore it to it's former glory. It has the straight lollipop sticks on the top of the seat post, highlighted in gold. I'll put more pictures of it up at this weekend. Best, Pierre.

Re:

Very nice :) I have an early no1 luged Ephgrave frame that I've never built up... But seeing that I may have to get the ball rolling and get on with it! ;)
Good luck with the sale, someone's going to be very happy :)
