Still frippery, all that fancy shiny stuff in bright colours, pah.

No, black cotton, that's the kiddie for me.

Cloth tape is the weapon of choice at that time :). Benotto tape reminded people of the non adhesive Raleigh tape that trailed along in the slipstream from a thousand Raleigh Arenas .... Moser and Knettermann were paid to use it LOL

The real choice is where to end it at the top of the bars, a couple of years before your bike was made the tape ended on the middle of the tops, the trend at the end of the 70's was to end the tape at the end of the ferrule of the bars.

Re:

Well, this is where practicality may have to overcome historical correctness.

I ride with my hands on the top of the bars a fair bit, so I like to have bar tape there. My plan is to wrap up to the point where the bars expand for the clamp. I will try to get a smooth transition between tape and bar, so that the diameters are as close as possible.

Anyway, wheels are in, brakes are set up, front one needs a 'tweak' to get one pad perfectly lined up, back ones need cabling, but the hood of the Modolo lever needed some luvvin from the superglue tube.

With luck I will get the time later to get the levers positioned correctly and then get the tape on.

I chanced upon some perfect bar end plugs on the bay. Very similar to the ones made by Milremo / REC, but black and £2.99, so they will finish the bars off a treat.

Then it will be chain, end stop adjustment on the front and back mechs, tighten the seatpost, do the middle clip on the back brake cable and a final polish.

Well... here it is.

It's all up and running and I have had a quick spin around the block.

The mech is not too keen on the 28 tooth cog when using the small (41T small?) ring, if I had a B screw adjust I would give the top jockey wheel a little more room, but I don't so that gear is reserved for emergency purposes only. I found kicking the pedal around in order to get my foot in the toe clip a bit difficult, as the last time I had to do that was 1990something, plus, I was wearing trainers.

For proper riding I have these.

Yes, I accept they are a little new, but trying to find some original looking shoes, in my size (8/42) that did not cost more than my house was proving difficult, so I got these, new, from a guy in the Netherlands.

The back brake squeeks a bit, I'll have to look into that as the front one is spot on.

So, next trip will be a shakedown, out into the country where I will get some proper rBOTM type photos... no I don't mean in a studio, taken by a professional, I leave that to the MTB aspirants, no I mean just a few 'bike being used' type piccies.

Oh, and doesn't cotton tape fray like a b*tch when you cut it. Much time spent with a razor, trimming stray threads off.

Full spec sheet when I can figure out what the seat post is, but the tyres are Vittoria Open Corsa SC.

Re:

Well done Neil, superb job!
I think you need to paint the garage door though, not enough contrast
