Ask Tintin . His Trimble are using the same principle . the outer contracts and retract pushing the front mech . the inner doesnt move at all .
Tintin sold me a mavic front mech which had been modified to work like that . Ask him hwere he got it from .
I sold that Front mech to some 24Pouces , he might still have it .

Thanks for the info, however i'm using a BP Shimano mech for this.

it is just the part you need which bolts onto the front mech . that part was on the mavic front mech , but it would fit a shimano , no problem .

I am sure tintin said his LBS made the part for him .

I understand how this works and I understand how it's now working in legrandefromage case.

In legrandefromage case the cable outer would replace the noodle but run to the front mech and that would be the ridged part, putting the noodel reverts it abck to normal.

Assuming you have that 'top stop' it would work for you, though you would need a top pull, else you're using a continous cable all the way from the shifter ?
Either way that's only a bodge and you said you wanted it pretty original.

i.e. if it's similar to this

then a noodle bodge would work but with a top pull front mech. though it wouldn't look brilliant and may not be brilliant shifting.

easy,

take a crappy cantilever, rob the canti block holder

then get a tap & die set, thread it to the correct size to fit your front mech, get a cable stop reducer - you know - the sort they use to convert a disc hose runner to a cable stop for v's ??

and you got it, using one on me trimble - works fine

Thanks, this looks like another viable option if I cannot get that part or get a copy of that part made. :)
