dynatech 700 advice to ss

I have got one of the above bikes and am thinking of running it as a single speed just for winter commuting.

I have some modern wheels I can use on it (although I am not sure I can run guards and 25c for winter) - my question is can I run 130mm hubs or am I better off sticking with what I have on the bike currently.

Also what do I need to convert. I am trying to keep costs to a minimum
