Dura Ace mech, purplified

On my MTBs I like to run triple setups with a mid-ratio cassette and I like these mid-cage (GS) Dura Ace mechs for their classy and retro appearance. They're also very light too. Unfortunately they GS ones are not easy to get hold of and the few that are around on ebay normally go for big money. Managed to get this one though but needed new jockeys. So it's now had the purple treatment (cost less than a tenner for the bolts and wheels), as it's destined for this viewtopic.php?f=6&t=292714&start=20

Down to 195g on the digital scales too.

Cheers :)

For anyone interested, to get cheap purple wheels I bought one set of purple (with red bearing covers, not helpful!) and one set of silver (with silver bearing covers) and swap them over. Obviously you get a spare set of silver jockey wheels with red bearing covers too! £3.55 for the two sets from here, with a wait from China: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151955603983. The wheels are very smooth indeed.

The purple bolts are from Pro-bolt.com, M4 x 20mm for the limit screws (you need to go longer than the originals due to the size of the head of the bolt) and for the tension screw - I bought a pack of 5 bolts for £3.90 as I can use the other two for the front mech limit screws. The clamp bolt is M5 x 10, 82p from the same place.

.

Maybe they are now but if you intend to ride the bike and then wash it, water will get past the seals and they will seize. Simple enough to remove them, prise off seals, clean out gunk, get the bearings moving and regrease but it fundamentally is a retrograde step from bush type jockey wheels.

Ive fitted them to nearly all my bikes in pursuit of saving a few g and blinginess and have had two different pairs seize. In future will go for xtr jockey wheeks.

Btw good effort, it is possible to use an alloy bolt for the cable clamp, needs a sensitive touch to tighten so it holds the cable and it doesnt shear off the bolt. Less lickely to happen with probolt sourced as compare to cheaper ebay alloy bolts.

Nice, you could also fit a purple cable adjuster, and don't forget the purple cable end crimp
