Dura ace downtube shifters

Devout Dirtbag
I have a pair of Dura ace 7700 downtube shifters that say 8 sp or 9 sp on them, Thease are the friction or indexed model. They work perfectly on a 8 sp cassette in the index mode but when I try it on a 9 sp it skips a gear between the 13 and 15 tooth cog. I thought the 7700 model was a 9 sp group or is this an early model? Anybody khow anything about these?

downtube shifters

Thanks , but it didn't work. I'm using a DA 7700 derailleur so it should be compatible with the DA 7700 downtube shifters. I tried all three cable clamping methods on Sheldon Browns website to no avail. It still skips a gear but in a different gear with each method. I then put on an old Shimano 600 tri color rear derailleur that I had in the parts bin. What do you know , problem solved. it shifts through all 9 gears perfectly.

Well if it's working then everything seems OK, but it's strange that the 7700 shifters don't work with a 7700 mech and 9s cassette... did you check the hanger alignment? That's the usual suspect when indexing doesn't work as it should.
