Dura Ace 7402 Gear Lever Question

can anyone remember what we used to do "back in the day" to bolt shimano downtube gear levers on to the glued bosses on the likes of TVT and Vitus frames? these shimano curved adapters were made to "hug" brazed frame downtubes but were clearly not suited for the bonded bosses on glued frames. were "non curved" flat type mounts available?

i have the funniest feeling we used to risk our fingertips and buff the curves flat in the bench grinder . . .!!
