Hi there, have just managed to pick up some resonably priced 8 speed duara-ace stis with a view to replacing the 105s which dont work on a bike i got from the local paper.

then started to remember that dura-ace cable pull may not be compatable with other range components

or was that just older stuff.

anyone know?

thanks

ben

Dura-Ace kept its unique cable pull ratio right through the 8-speed period, including all 8-speed STI units. They'll index an 8-speed cassette with a 7400-series rear mech, or a eight ninths of a 9-speed cassette with most other Shimano derailleurs.

Sheldon has a pretty comprehensive page on the subject:

thanks for the replies, looks like I should be able to get 8 speed dura-ace stis to work with an 8 speed cassetee and a 105 (1056) rear deralleur if I use the alternatetive cable routing (B)... I think.. will be some time before i get round to actually trying but cheers anyway.
