Thanks for the advice.
I only have one chrome rim at the moment, apart from some older ones for a 50's project, so I will probably upgrade to alloys, if I can find any 27" x 1" alloy rims for sensible money.
Steel rims not ruled out completely yet though, as I probably won't ride this bike in the wet. Not intentionally anyway!
