Drivetrain component clean and repair service

There is a lovely eddy Merckx on eBay for £0.99 (bidding) it’s pretty bad and doesn’t come with wheels, but i think it’ll be nice if done, I’ll take a punt at it and asked the buyer if he’ll post😄 and don’t any of you bid on it now😉

I think with drivetrain you’re asking for trouble!
Too many variables can mean once back on the bike it may or may not work properly. A rusty/dirty shagged cassette is still a shagged cassette even when clean, shifters wear out, rear mech jockey wheels etc etc. unless you are able to replace the key worn components e.g. small cog on a cassette; jockey wheels on a mech, you’ll get inconsistent results/dissatisfaction. Factor in that some of those parts on their own are either going to be unobtainable or financially unviable and it’s not worth doing.

Brakes - if you were able to offer correct new pads/shoes with refurbished/cleaned levers and arms maybe that could work and be less troublesome. Don’t know if I’d pay someone.

That said I’ve supplied bikes to folk in the past who are cash rich and time poor, happy to pay for my time knowing they get an old bike with new parts ready to ride.

Rusty shed finds are still out there just takes some patience and a keen eye! My best advice in that respect is always buy complete bikes, sometimes you can offset the price by selling parts, sometimes the missing parts cost more than the bike!

I love rebuilding and fixing snapped and broken RF+ shifter or modifying SRT800 X-rays to use SRT600/500 parts and of course suspension forks to get them going again. Or taking part Bottom brackets and finding a way to get new bearing on them so a Ti axle or even quality ISIS can be used again, similar with hubs.

Sometimes it's just not possible (a Nukeproof rear hub I have hung up for example).

Have a go at it all, you could even stick and advert in you local Facebook groups etc..

I think the above advice on restoring complete bikes, no matter what the perceived status or value is, is a great place to start, people always want bikes, plenty of dirty bikes for sale that with a good clean/service would attract more buyers. Great practice as also stated.

If you want some old dirty parts I probably could dig you some out :)

Oh, I’ve seen this advert. I’m looking for a see through crud guard, just didn’t reply as I thought it’d gone to charity. So I’ll take the guard and the levers if that’s ok with you?

I have a friend (who isn't on here) who offers similar services to a select few. These are a couple of the projects he's undertaken for me in the past. If you can achieve this kind of finish I'd say you'll find yourself some customers
