Downtube shifter indexing problem

Evening all,

I've got a set of shimano 600 downtime shifters (8 speed) on one of my bikes, all the gearing was fine until SWSNBN knocked the bike over and it seemed to have trouble going up on the top cog.

Just taken the cable off and the indexing in the shifters seems to have changed. Gear 1-6 is indexed as normal i.e pull back 5mm and it clicks into next gear but when it comes to the 7th for some reason it needs to be turned around 40mm so the shifter has nearly done a 180 by the time it comes to 8th gear which isn't how it was a few days ago.

Is there anyway to change the position of each gear in the shifter or am I missing something really obvious?

Cheers

Re:

Take a photo square on from behind with it in the 'problem' point and post it here, this might make it easier to see what has changed, if it fell on the drive side this may be easier to see what's bent.

Don't forget that you are now in a good place with swmbo for a N+1 :D

chances are the rear derailleur has been bent in the accident.....should be straightforward enough for a competent bike shop to sort out
