I'm down to 8 now, and all but one get ridden regularly, so I've no moral issues. The only one is I don't ride is the Elswick I rebuilt last year. With its shiny black powder coat, period Lotus JPS livery and NOS Shimano light action it just looks too nice to my eye to ride,.so I'm happy to sit and look at it instead. I'm not seeking any more, though there's always room for a Cleland or Highpath if indoor one.

Down to eight ? From what ?

Also about to start 8th myself

From a peak of 11, though stood at 9 for a few years. My in laws are fostering a 15 yea..old lad who's had a hard time, so when my mum moved and gave up her garage I gave him my Bear Valley that I kept there.

Unless you have them just for the pleasure of owning them, or have a private collection, I think 8-10+is the max sensible amount, as at least you have a fighting chance of riding them each a few times a month.

Re:

In my mind , I couldn't justify to myself having more than 8 bikes . They ALL get ridden , just some more than others . Wouldn't build a bike to just look at . Depriving someone else the pleasure of buying and riding it .
Kind gesture to give the Bear Valley mate  nice one

Agreed. Down to nine. Six mtb, one is sentimental. Five ready to ride and ridden. Two road inc museum piece that I built for FIL And a cx kona. All possibilities covered. Upgrades only from now on. One in one out.

Off to my local beer festival. Lookout later and I apologise in advance.

Re:

All mine are ready for riding - once I get them out of the loft - except the Sunn , for which I have everything . . . . except the frame  . . . which I'm getting soon !

Re:

Ok helpful stuff now I need to cull from 22.......

Yes the 'chasing the tiger' is a useful and brilliant comparison. My issue is that I bought heavily in 2009/10 before we had our first baby and after the second I went from riding 3x weekly to very little.
I totally agree that bikes are for riding apart from my NOS KHS Montana team 91, and my surly 1x1=11 from 09 that's still nos

So I guess a blind cull is the best way

You don't ask to join, the psychotic, tripping donkey lines you up in crosshairs.

It's the leaving that's the real tricky bit, though, not sure the eponymous 12 step programmes are sufficient to cut it.
