i have just setup an x7 shifter with x9 mech, ultegra 6500 cassette and pc971 chain
is this all compatible?
i cant get it to shift as well as i would like :? :roll:

Should all work OK together.

Is it overshifting, undershifting, or some other problem?

If you take the chain off and eyeball the alignment of the derailleur cage with the sprockets, can you detect any discrepancy between the jumps the cassette requires and the jumps your derailleur gives?

some gears wont go up so easily and some down so easily :? thats what has confused me (its not even all the time, the said gears will shift perefect say every 1 in 5). will go and check now

Cables and housing? Check for kinks, burrs, snags, frayed ends, friction...

brand new cable, housing is fine
its wont shift down into 3rd (from 2) so well
and it wont shift up into 7th (from 8th) so well

the mech doesnt match the alignment of the cassette but i dont think its et and it also shifts ok in the other gears :roll: :evil:

Is you chain the correct length? Is the mech far enough, but not to far from the cassette.

Is everything new. Is this in middle ring ?

one majorly over look thing to check is the mech hanger straight like i say most people dont even realise that there bent and even ti frames can be out
