Do Retro MTB enthusiasts ride new bikes, too?

Newer bikes might be quicker, lighter, more comfy or whatever but I am not interested in that - similar views about the wife too

...not sure how a new wife would be more comfy than the old one but should definitely be quicker and lighter or there would be no purpose in upgrading, would it?

I have both old and newer, mtb and road. They all do the same thing take me on a journey of enlightenment. Each bike makes the ride different even though it may be the same journey.
Remember even new bikes will be old soon to the next generation.

Most importantly its about the enjoyment and the freedom you have on a bike. When we get too old or unable to ride make sure there is no regrets. Maybe even electric when you can't pedal much more and to old to no better.

Have I gone off on a tangent or is that another question is there a place for electric bikes, boom :?:

Only when I'm too old to pedal but then I'll probably wobble everywhere, fall off and stack myself :facepalm:

Here are some pics of a 1930's Rudge Whitworth I snapped at the Ardingly smallholders show this weekend. A glorious old clunker with chunky 26er wheels no less and mechanically linked hub brakes and probably 1x3 gears. Check out that plush seat suspension...

Yep, it's a right beast. Reminds me of childhood days struggling up hills on a 3speed Elswick and hating it.

There's no better work out than sitting up long hills in 3rd on one of these. Real bikes for real men. Only make sure you don't overrev it. The optimal cadence would be 42 or lower...

I discovered the same thing when I took this one for a ride yesterday. Not only is it 2 kg heavier than my usual ride, I also can't get it into the inner ring, so uphills have to be taken fast!

Have modern cyclists gotten weaker since the chainrings are half the size now cmp to what they used to be... ?
