Not sure what to do now :( Been for the first ride on the montage in quite some time... Think the last time it saw some dirt was when it snowed in jan/feb....

Ive been out of the saddle since april time due to back/neck problems... And thought i felt more up to it so went for a decent ride today.

Only to come home with realy bad back ache again..

Im fine if im on the lenton, Or one of the road bikes/tourers.. But the Raleigh is starting to seem a little long for me. Im 6ft and finding myself stretching for the bars more than id like..

Now my quandry (SP?) is ...

*Sell it and buy a more up to date/ retro full susser or somthing with a soft front and shorter stem...

*keep it in the loft as a "one day" thing..

*chuck a short stem (girvin maybe?) and some susser forks on the montage?

I love the bike. Its taken me a long time to get it looking how i want. Its well spec'd for a raleigh, Rides nice... But my back isnt up to it anymore...

At a loss for what to do..... Any ideas?

Im not even sure the suss forks and short stem would be possible due to the geometry of the frame...

How she looks atm..
Taped up seat due to LOTS of use...

Shorter stem, riser bar - and sort that seat out cos it ain't helping like that!

The seats comfy.. Supprisingly haha.. Ive been looking for another as its ripped. Never been a fan of lightweight skinny seats. My arse aint made for em

So riser stem we thinks yeah?

Any idea on sort?

And legrandefromage ~~ how much lol

Start by putting the seat in a horizontal position. The way it is now, it's pushing you back and hence putting stress on your back's muscles.

Thank you...

The seat is horizontal atm. That photo was taken before the bike was stripped and re-greased at the beginning of the year.. And only just after the seat stem was fitted (the old one had been shortened to a silly length by prev owner)

Photo taken a while back.... As you can see from the dead trees in the background.. 8)

If you're 6-0, the horizontal c-c top tube would best be 59-60cm, but that looks rather longer. Which is fine (well ish) for a young man of 6-0, but we don't remain young forever.

The stem also looks to be very long, but bear in mind that a shorter one would lower the handlebar, so you would need to combine it with a riser bar to maintain the current height. Bear in mind also that a shorter stem and swept bars would make the steering a lot more lively than you're used to, so give yourself time to get accustomed to that.

However if you have a back problem, I would guess that you might really need to bite the bullet and find a shorter frame and combine that with a shorter stem/swept bars.
