DIY question-Pink mould growing on the wall UPDATE FROM HELL

Update

Builders have arrived to redo everything they did and more besides, last time it was just replaster all the walls, but since we have discovered that the leak from them above hadnt been fixed and was cascading water down the wall but behind the asbestos laden artex seems it was this that stopped you seeing the damage the water was making
This time its strip everything out, walls all the tiles, toilet, shower, sink the whole lot.Plaster off floor tiles off .Its now a near empty shell

New problem discovered by the builders-The entire floor[all the boards] are rotten
Builder now saying that the insurance doesnt cover this and we have to sort it out before they can continue
Big fight coming
All along the insurance company has been claiming that this is a separate claim from the first leak even though we kept telling them otherwise
A wall 15'x9' cannot become that damaged and mold growing right through into the kitchen in 4 days[this is what theyre claiming
One look at the floor and you can tell its been going on far longer that that

Tomorrow the asbestos guys are arriving to remove the ceiling,i was hoping that the builder would have this done within a week but they have now stated that a dehumidifier needs to be in there for 3 weeks before they can continue
3 effing weeks   BEFORE
And before the rotten floorboards had been discovered
I have no idea how long this is going to take and could end up in court with the insurance, but im guessing 3 months before its all completed

That looks pretty much like our bathroom did last week

Happily it's mostly functional again now, though the bath will need to come back out (was only really trial fitted anyway) to let me replace a bit more of the original plumbing which just isn't going to work to my satisfaction and a little bit of rotten framing that was worse than I realised before.

Hope you get it sorted out in the end... it's definitely a very inconvenient room to have out of action - if nothing else you will certainly appreciate it more afterwards!

hes right about the dehumidifier..if you dont damp will seep out and screw it all up..halogen free standing lamps will only work on the surface ...it looks bad but 3 weeks will fly by and the mess wont take that long to sort...

.....step 2...use antibacterial cleaning fluids on the area.....

I think you mean anti-fungal. Anti-bacterial chemicals will have little to no effect on mould.

We had a similar problem in a previous house but luckily our floor wasn't rotten.

Imo the builders should have checked the wall more thoroughly. Mould doesn't just appear for no reason. If they were any good they should have realised this.

As usual for an insurance company they try to get away with the cheapest possible contractor to save themselves having to pay out too much.

If you have too much trouble threaten to go to another insurance company. That usually works as they want to keep taking your money.

When they carried out the first round of remedial work, they only stripped off the upper half of the walls above the tiles[tiled 1/2 way up]
When they took off the tiles this time to do the full buna it was found the plasterboard behind was totally saturated as well, but the had happily re plastered all the same.
I'll be kicking up as to how and why they missed that one
Yeah sounds like the assessor was deliberately not looking for anything in an attempt to save the insurance company a quid or two.

I think i'll take up the offer to decant whilst the work is carried out, that should cost them a couple of thousand or so extra :x :x
Least i can do :D
