Dishing a wheel

Right, i've got a wheel with a Deore DX M650 hub. The previous owner has fitted a 8sp freehub. I've sorted the axle spacing out, but the rim is not correctly dished for the new spacing.

Is this something the LBS can take care of with the existing spokes? The wheel only cost a couple of quid and i'm wondering if it's worth the hassle :?

Yes, your LBS can dish a wheel easily. No new hardwear should be needed. I've done many of the 8/9spd conversions and never had an issue, so undoing a conversion shouldn't be any more of one. Good luck!

Excellent :D

I'm not actually undoing the conversion, just finishing it off! The previous owner claims to have been riding the wheel with a 9sp cassette. If that's true the wheel must have been all over the place, i think he'd bodged the axle alignment to make up for the incorrect dish. His poor stays and dropouts must have been bending at funny angles if it worked

fairly straightforward to tackle this yourself if you have a spoke wrench and some time. Just loosen one side a quarter turn and tighten the other the same amount until it sits central.
