Disc tabs on a rigid steel frame?

Has anybody upgraded the brakes on a rigid steel frame to discs?.
Is it worth the bother, is it ruining a good frame.
Can it even be done, will an older stell frame take the strain of caliper mounts?.
I've no concrete plans as yet, just thinking out loud.

- Yes - http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=136070 (here is the finished bike http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... sc&start=0)

Is it worth the bother,
- Yes i think so. But be aware of some costs attached. Including a respray of thick powder coat my disc retrofit ended up at around £700,-

is it ruining a good frame.
- no I dont think so if done propperly and inline with the design of the frame and done "in the spirit" of the frame

- Yes most frames except those with a U-bend dropout design like the Yeti FROs will need a support rod. Thin legged old forks I would be careful about. The crown will need to take much more brake momentum than the cantis will ever manage to produce.

- go ahead - we are looking forward to see it!

Thanks for the replys, some very nice bikes there and in stunning colours too.
There may be a summer build on the way then.
