Disc Brakes or V Brakes

I have the mounts on the frame and front forks, but i dont have the right wheels for discs, (the hubs have no fitment for the discs)

Looking at price's wheels seem to start from £40.00 each for a wheel that will take a disc...

IMO/E Vs are fine in the dry, but any rim brakes lose a lot of stopping power in really heavy rain. Were I to buy a "new" bike it would have discs simply for safety.

PS Best rim brakes I've used/have are Avid Arch Rivals.

discs brakes of some sort or other have been available for bicycles since the 1970's so you can go 'retro' disc if you want.
