Did Klein repaint their own bikes?

Hi

i have bought a Klein 1992 Attitude Frame 18" with original factory Mag 21.
The Mag 21 is at the end of life and the frame has some painting damages.
I'M now trying to build the bike up again, will never be as new.

I found out that on the bottom of the steerer tube, the paint was slightly of and beneath there was a bright green painting.
also at the tail of the bike, where the rear wheel mounting is, the typical dolomite pinky is visible.

i know that my Orizon Linear fade has also Pink, but not the same as the dolomiti.

The Horizon Paint is original, not repaint such as John does.
i still know the bicycle dealer it was bought from (former sticker has faded into the paint) and this dealer never repainted bikes.

Now the question, did Klein repaint their Bikes, if another color was needed? and that my bike was originally a dolomiti, but repainted by Klein to Horizon linear Fade?

Not as far as I am aware, as standard practise.

I would guess you have a non factory respray.

Jonrock would be the expert on this.

Well that clears it up.

I had one ball burnished, but there were remnants of the green flouro on it when the black was polished off. Always thought that was very unusual.

So you are saying they were short of completed frames, so resprayed to order?

Pretty much the opposite way round from most manufacturers.

Then Klein really are rather special.

guess you know the best, since you have painted so many Klein's

very strange for Klein, but i guess it was really the easier work to just lay another base coat and the colors over the original paint, any repainter would strip the original color

Sounds like Fender guitar back in the classic era. If a sunburst didn't turn out the way they wanted they shot the thing over again with a solid cover finish

No strip... Why strip a 100% smooth sound finish that you will use the same type of paint upon? A quick rub down and grab the gun

I got also some frames and MC1 which were painted double but in different colors and I also got some with the same colors painted double and original decals (like the mc1 screenprinted sticker). So im 80 to 90 percent sure they did a factory repaint but i don`t know why they have painted mc1 in the same paintsceme twice. Maybe something in the colormatch was wrong at the first shot of color.
