my mate just bought a Kona Stab Supreme frame set and we both no nothing about full suspention,so we`ve got loads of questions

1. what discs fit,hope ,shimano etc ?
2. what size discs,160,180,200 ??
3. what size wheels 26 or 24
4 .what discs are best?

yes, yes, yes, and take ya pick!

Cheers,Al

Now is this a trick question?

Al.

If you know nothing about the frameset, they've got to be the worst frames out there and you'd be better off getting a Halfords set up. I'd be happy to take it off your hands for £50 inc p&p

As for the other stuff, check out the Kona website and check the spec out on the bikes they have.
Bigger discs = more power

Number of pistons 4 pot 2 pot etc.

M4 is a big hit disc that would be good on the kona. the minis are just that and made for xc duties. They would run a 165 mm rotor.
Whilst you would need to run at least 180 rear 200 front.

I got Hope C2 (old 2 caliper ones), Shimano 4 Caliper brakes (older XT ones) and Hayes FX9. I prefer the Shimano. Hayes tend to squeak more than others. I hear Avid Juicy and higher end Magura units are nice. Had some mechanical disc brakes (Avid BB7) and I hated them.

Shimano and Magura use mineral oil, others use brake fluid. If brake fluid leaks and gets on your frame, it will take the paint off.

160,180,200mm
-160 is good for cross country. 180 is good for all mountain. 200 for downhill. Larger rotors tend to warp easier with heat and will often rub on the brake calipers.

M4's are a heavy duty XC brake, idealy suited to fat gits like me. Awesome power and make a lovely hissy steamy noise when you squirt water from your camelbak onto a hot disk
